As we (quite literally) count down the days to Christmas, we’ll be showcasing a different door located in Knowledge Quarter Liverpool, to reveal what goes on inside the amazing buildings and institutions we have situated in our innovation district.

The Philharmonic Dining Rooms
The Phil is the first purpose-built Victorian pub in England to be given Grade I listed status for its outstanding architectural quality and magnificent interior, including its famous gents toilets! Spread over five floors, each of its rooms are beautifully decorated with a musical theme, which have subsequently hosted performances from global music icons including Buddy Holly and Paul McCartney.3rd December

Unity Theatre
Unity helps develop diverse theatre-makers at every stage of people's careers, providing creative opportunities to develop artists’ interests, skills, confidence and careers. Historically, the building on Hope Place was built as a synagogue by the New Hebrew Congregation in 1856.4th December

Liverpool Medical Institute
LMI is one of the oldest medical societies in the world, tracing its origins back to 1779. For nearly two centuries this beautiful Grade II Listed building has been a focus of medical life and a meeting place for the medical community, with its primary role being that of a medical library.5th December

Everyman Theatre
The Everyman Theatre stands at the north end of Hope Street in KQ Liverpool. It was founded in 1964, in Hope Hall (once a chapel, then a cinema), in an area of Liverpool noted for its bohemian environment and political edge, and has built a reputation for using the power of theatre to inspire, entertain and nurture positive social change.7th December

Reid of Liverpool
This traditional antiquarian and used bookshop is the only surviving Georgian, purpose built retail premises incorporating living accommodation in Liverpool. Erected circa 1785, the bookshop contains over 40,000 titles of a most varied stock, from academic, science, fiction, unusual and arcane.8th December

4 Rodney Street - Epstein Plaque
Brian Samuel Epstein was born at 4 Rodney Street, Liverpool, on September 19, 1934. This plaque was installed in 2015 to commemorate the pop impresario's vision for four lads from Liverpool as well as many other musicians at the time including Cilla and Gerry and the Pacemakers.9th December

Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts
LIPA is world renowned as a leading provider of university level creative and performing arts training with a portfolio of ambitious and popular courses. Located on the site of Paul McCartney and fellow Beatle George Harrison’s old school, The Liverpool Institute for Boys, LIPA's Patrons include Dame Judi Dench, Wayne Sleep, Sir Richard Branson and Carly Simon.10th December

The Spine
Located within Liverpool City Council's £1bn flagship development site, this unique building takes its name from the striking staircase on its north elevation, that resembles human vertebrae. It's exterior facade is comprised of 23 million unique voronoi polygons that mimic human skin, while internally it is the northern home of the RCP and innovative Sciontec AI workspaces.11th December

Novotel Paddington Village
Liverpool's tallest hotel is perfectly located within our innovation district, close to University Campuses and opposite the new Royal Hospital. It is sophisticatedly design by the Sundukovy Sisters’ studio, and its 221 rooms include 32 spacious, apartment-style studios for longer stays.15th December

Digital Innovation Facility
DIF is the UK's leading centre for the development and industrial application of next-generation digital technologies for industry. Owned by the University of Liverpool, the facility features cutting edge equipment and highly skilled support to facilitate enhanced access for businesses that wish to collaborate with University experts across multiple technology areas.16th December

Liverpool John Moores University - Student Life Building and Sport Building
Opened in 2021, LJMU's Student Life Building and Sport Building is located on Copperas Hill. It is home to the University's student support services and Students' Union, along with state-of-the-art gym and sports facilities.18th December

Royal Liverpool University Hospital
The new Royal was officially opened in January 2023 by Their Royal Highnesses, the Prince and Princess of Wales,and is the largest hospital in the country to provide inpatients with 100% single en-suite bedrooms and mainly focuses on complex planned care and specialist services.19th December

Yoko Ono Lennon Centre
This purpose-built facility was opened by Sean Ono Lennon in 2022. The Centre houses the Tung Auditorium for teaching, learning and research, the 600-seat Paul Brett Lecture Theatre, a smaller lecture theatre for 450, the Fröhlich Café Bar, seminar rooms and backstage facilities.20th December

Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine
LSTM, founded in 1898, was the first institution in the world dedicated to research and teaching in the field of tropical medicine. Celebrating their 125th anniversary in 2023 firmly established LSTM’s role at the forefront of UK science and as a global force for good, impacting the health of the most disadvantaged communities.21st December

Clatterbridge Cancer Centre - Liverpool
The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s leading cancer centres. CCC-Liverpool is flagship hospital in central Liverpool. The 11-storey building has state-of-the-art facilities and delivers a wide range of highly-specialist care including pioneering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, stem cell (bone marrow) transplant and radiotherapy.22nd December

St Luke's Church
Known locally as the ‘Bombed Out Church’, this building suffered catastrophic damage during the May Blitz of 1941, leaving only its external masonry standing. Fast forward 60 years and the site had been transformed into an established venue for theatre, dance, music, visual art, cinema, and spoken word, which is a testament to Liverpool's community spirit and the power of the arts to affect change.24th December
