What is KQ Liverpool?
Knowledge Quarter Liverpool (KQ Liverpool) is an innovation district in Liverpool City Centre.
You may ask, what is an innovation district? Innovation districts are typically geographical areas in cities which are home to a cluster of Universities, health institutions and a range of businesses, and we’re lucky enough to have one here in Liverpool.
KQ Liverpool is a 450-acre innovation district which is home to world-leading Universities, the NHS Health Campus, Hope Street Cultural Hub, the Fabric District, Paddington Village and hundreds of businesses.
KQ Liverpool is overseen by a partnership between University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, Liverpool City Council, Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Trust and Bruntwood SciTech. The day-to-day management of the district is led by the KQ Liverpool CEO and a small, collaborative team including: Assistant CEO, Head of Partnerships and External Relations, Head of Marketing and Comms and Strategic Projects and People Manager.
KQ Liverpool is hosted by its spin-out development company, Sciontec. Whilst this opportunity sits within the KQ Liverpool team, you will work closely with the Sciontec team who have a vision to own and operate the most innovative science and technology buildings in the world. Sciontec owns and operates Liverpool Science Park, manages Sciontec AI at The Spine and is developing HEMISPHERE One and Two on Paddington Village.
It’s an exciting time to join KQ Liverpool as we plan to launch our new Vision and strategy early this year and also expand our skills and outreach programmes, enabled through the Liverpool City Region Health and Life Sciences Innovation Zone.
Day-to-day KQ Liverpool delivers a range of programmes and initiatives all designed to drive the inclusive growth of the innovation district for the good of Liverpool City Region. This covers a broad spectrum including business support, policy and lobbying, events programming and outreach to name but a few examples.
We are looking for motivated, collaborative and visionary individual to join our ambitious KQ Liverpool team as Skills Project Coordinator, to play a key role in the delivery of our KQ Futures inclusive innovation programme.
KQ Futures
KQ Futures is our inclusive innovation programme targeted at primary school through to sixth form students across Liverpool City Region, which aims in transforming career aspirations and better aligning them into local opportunities in key future growth sectors, including health and life sciences and other cross-cutting sectors.
There are a number of different strands to the KQ Futures programme, a number of which are summarised as follows:
Animates – A children’s book which aims to introduce the concept of innovation in Liverpool City Region to local primary school age students. The book is supported by a lesson plan and we are currently developing a roadshow that will be delivered in schools.
Career Insights – An annual large-scale event for Year 7 – 9 students giving them the opportunity to meet some of the businesses working in the Region and take part in an interactive, group activity to enhance the essential skills employers look for.
Future Innovators – An insight day for Year 10 to 13 students which gives them the opportunity to see behind the doors of KQ Liverpool’s innovation organisations and businesses, to showcase the diverse range of career opportunities in the sector and break down barriers to opportunities.
KQ Interns – A 3 week programme running over the summer holidays offering 10 students aged 16-18 across Liverpool City Region a fully-funded Living Wage placement with KQ Liverpool and a local business to enhance their understanding of the world of work and local opportunities.
In addition to the above, KQ Futures also offers support for businesses in terms of offering simplified routes to engaging with and building the future talent pipeline, as well as providing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for teachers.
