Colin Sinclair, chief executive of Knowledge Quarter Liverpool and Sciontec, has completed the incredible feat of running 52 miles across the Liverpool City Region in a single day.
Having set out from The Spine building in KQ Liverpool at 6am, Colin ran through Sefton, Liverpool, Wirral, Halton, St Helens and Knowsley and finished 13 hours later at the Novotel Liverpool Paddington Village hotel.
His epic double-marathon efforts have raised thousands of pounds for six local charities, one in each borough – Home Start, Y Kidz, Stick ‘n’ Step, Centre 56, St Helens Young Carers and Claire House Children’s Hospice.
During the event, Colin called in at various locations across the city region, including Bootle, Liverpool and Birkenhead Town Halls, Hill Dickinson Stadium, Catalyst Discovery Centre and Shakespeare North Playhouse, where he met local politicians, businesspeople and members of the community, as well as representatives from each of the charities.
Speaking at the end of his challenge, Colin said:
“While I’ve taken part in endurance events before, this was something very different and very special. I was slightly worried that I might get bored or lonely on such a long run, but thanks to my colleagues, friends, local civic leaders and charity partners, I had incredible support and encouragement along the way.
“It was a really tough challenge, but absolutely worth it. Not only have we been able to raise money for six vital charities, but we have also been able to spread the word about the incredible innovations taking place in Knowledge Quarter Liverpool and hopefully encourage the wider city region to access the opportunities they can bring.
“The end of the run is not the end of the story. My colleagues have taken part in their own fundraising activities and we are hosting a quiz night later this month to raise even more money for our chosen charities, along with a silent auction and luxury raffle.”
