Knowledge Quarter Liverpool chief executive Colin Sinclair helped to raise more than £15,000 for local charities by completing a double-marathon around the city region.

His epic LCR In A Day challenge saw him run 52 miles in a single day to raise vital funds for six organisations – Centre 56, Claire House Children’s Hospice, Home Start Knowsley, St Helens Young Carers, Stick ‘n’ Step and Y Kidz – one in each City Region borough.

Throughout his gruelling endurance challenge, which took around 13 hours to complete, Colin was greeted by local civic leaders and cheered on by supporters and charity representatives. He also received words of encouragement by video from Mayor of Liverpool City Region, Steve Rotheram.

Members of the Knowledge Quarter Liverpool (KQ Liverpool) team supported Colin on the route, either by cycling, running or providing essential supplies. They also conducted their own individual fundraising efforts including bake sales, cycle rides, running themselves and even a sponsored silence and fancy dress, culminating in a quiz and auction night at the recently-opened CENTRAL TECH innovation centre in KQ Liverpool.

Representatives from the six charities returned to the building to receive their respective share of the proceeds from the campaign, which totalled £15,292.90.

Colin said:

“The thing that kept me going through those last hard miles was knowing that we were raising vital funds for six charities that do such important work with young people and their families”.

“The work of each charity aligns with KQ Liverpool’s commitment to empower local young people to maximise their future potential. We are pleased to have raised so much money to support their work, with help before, during and after the run from colleagues and friends from across the city region.

“We’ve really enjoyed getting to know the six charities and I’m already thinking of ideas for our next big charity fundraising challenge!”

Claire Kidman, Head of Partnerships and External Relations at KQ Liverpool, said:

“It was an outstanding achievement by Colin to run through Liverpool, Sefton, Wirral, Halton, St Helens, Knowsley and back to Liverpool in support of six worthy causes. And fantastic to be part of the wider team that supported him along the route.

“Each of the six organisations involved plays a vital role at the heart of our communities, enriching the lives of children and young people and helping them build brighter, more fulfilling futures.

“That same ambition drives our work at KQ Liverpool, particularly through our KQ Futures programme, and we look forward to strengthening our partnerships to achieve our shared goals.”

In addition to the cash donations a number of fantastic prizes for the raffle and silent auction were provided by ACC Liverpool, Elida Beauty, Everton FC, Exclusive Private Signings, Fairhursts, Hope Street Hotel, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, Liverpool FC, Miles Coffee, Novotel Liverpool Paddington Village, Splash Tours Liverpool and Theatre Clwyd.

KQ Liverpool also received in kind support from Applied Nutrition (T-Shirts, supplements and water bottles), D’Vine Catering (food for the quiz night) and Typocom (branding and graphic design).
